Transitions

October alchemy: the mysterious way autumn transforms nature, turning the ordinary into something extraordinary. Just before the natural world shows us that it is time to let go and rest.

The transformation of green into red and orange, shades of yellow and rust—of sunlight into something softer and fleeting—turning familiar landscapes into places that are so stunning they seem almost otherworldly. Nothing remains unchanged.

Gold, amber, crimson, and copper emerge as the days begin to grow shorter and the light begins to fade.

Alchemy is the art of transforming ordinary metals into gold, and October does just that, turning shades of green into shades of gold, red and orange.

October is also about the splendor of impermanence, the way things in life become more meaningful when we know they won’t last. Impermanence is written into everything.

Autumn doesn’t resist change as we do. It transforms nature into art. And if Autumn’s display in the natural world is any indication, the final act may be the most glorious.

Autumn is a study in contradictions. There is beauty, and there is loss. There is change and transformation. There are endings and beginnings.

Autumn doing what autumn does best. It is a season worth slowing down for. The bounty of color, the light of autumn all are part of autumn’s magic.

Another beautiful ending, until the cycle begins again.

The trees are at their most beautiful just as they are preparing to let it all go, become bare, only to begin again. There is something both exquisite and heartbreaking about that. This brief, extravagant beauty that arrives on the edge of change and loss.
